Drift reports age quickly
A periodic comparison can tell you that live infrastructure differs from code. By the time someone investigates, the state may have changed again or the reason for the difference may be unclear.
Start from authoritative live state
Provider discovery identifies what is running. Infrastructure-as-Code describes intended managed state. The useful control compares both while also understanding ownership, environment criticality and change history.
Not every difference should be auto-fixed
Some drift is accidental; some is emergency operational change; some reflects IaC that has fallen behind. A safe system classifies the difference, estimates impact, proposes remediation and applies approval requirements according to risk.
Verification completes the loop
After a change, rediscover the environment and confirm that live state matches the approved target. The result should be evidence, not an assumption.
This discover–compare–decide–act–verify pattern is one of the general control loops behind Core automation.
